SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A coffee shop just west of the IU South Bend campus has put up a sign in its front window in a blatant display of antisemitism. The sign at Cloud Walking Coffee reading “All eyes on Rafah… 1.4 million Palestinians are in mortal danger from Israeli Bombing,” is also clear support of the terror group known as Hamas.
Israel, the only Jewish state in the world, has been engaged in a war with Hamas since early October when the terror group invaded the country, killing approximately 1,200 civilians, including women and children, in an unprovoked attack on neighborhoods and social events. Hamas, while designated as a terror group, is also the elected government of the Gaza Strip. The city of Rafah is currently Hamas’ last stronghold in Gaza.
Hamas and its allies have made it clear that they wish to eliminate the country of Israel and all Jewish people. Hamas also hides among civilian populations, using women and children as human shields.
REAL News Michiana attempted to speak with the owner of Cloud Walking, however an employee of the establishment told RNM ownership was unavailable. RNM asked the employee about the sign and the obvious antisemitism — she simply said “We do not have any political messaging.” A customer then started yelling at RNM for questioning the terrorist supporting message.
As previously stated, Cloud Walking is located just west of the IUSB campus on Mishawaka Avenue. Students and staff at IUSB have previously held rallies in support of Hamas. A rally at IUSB in October of 2023 was organized by a member of the Indiana Army National Guard.
