NILES, Mich. — REAL News Michiana has obtained video showing a 1st grade student at Niles Community Schools being viciously beaten by a 5th grade girl while riding the bus home from school. RNM was able to speak to the child’s father regarding the incident, who claims the school never notified him until he saw video of the beating posted by another student online. It turns out, there were also two adults on the bus, the driver and a bus monitor, who both did nothing to intervene.

In the video taken by another student you can hear the 1st grade boy and the much larger 5th grade girl arguing and cursing. The girl states that she had already punched the boy three times earlier and threatens to hit him more. At one point, the girl tells a friend to record as she goes in to hit the smaller child several more times. RNM has blurred the video to protect the child’s identity.

“He was dropped off (on Monday of last week) with the nanny who told me there had been some sort of incident on the bus, he had some bumps on his head.” The father, who RNM will not name in order to protect the identity of his son, said. “(My son) is 7-years-old. It was hard to tell from him exactly what had happened.”

The incident happened last Monday, March 4th and involved Ballard Elementary School students. According to the father, he called the school district’s bus garage the very next day. At that point, he was told that the district was looking into the incident and they would be calling him back. The father tells RNM he then called on Wednesday and Thursday — never hearing from the school district again. On Thursday night, he saw the video of his son being beaten online.

“On Friday morning I went to the school to speak with school officials and the police.” The father stated.

Niles Community Schools’ Superintendent Dan Applegate posted a letter about the incident, contradicting nearly everything the father told RNM only hours earlier.

“I want to assure you that immediate actions were taken even before the student video was posted online.” Applegate wrote. “These actions included collaboration with the local police department and the initiation of our disciplinary process. Our buses are equipped with video cameras, which have been instrumental in our review of the situation. Both the school district and the bus company are actively evaluating additional measures to further enhance the safety of our students and prevent such situations from occurring in the future.

According to the father, who tells RNM he has full custody of his son, the school district has not allowed him to view video taken by cameras mounted within the school bus. The father also tells RNM the girl who beat his son has had several discipline issues in the past, including being banned from riding the bus. RNM has not been able to confirm those details.

The father has since taken all of his children out of Ballard Elementary School and is exploring legal options.

BALLARD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL’S RADICAL PRINCIPAL

Jennifer Shabazz (D), principal of Ballard Elementary School in Niles, Michigan, has openly pushed Critical Race Theory along with radical gender theory concepts into the classroom.

In January of 2022, Shabazz helped create professional development training for teachers and staff at Niles Community Schools focused on radical Critical Race Theory and Gender Theory, pushing the sexualization of kids and separating children based on their race.

A list of the sessions for the training include: Talking to White Kids about Race, LGBTQ+ Terminology: A Primer, Gender Identity and Sexuality Student Panel, and Intersectionality and Circle of Privilege — to name a few. You can read the entire agenda below for yourself.

The “Gender Identity and Sexuality Student Panel” is where teachers and staff literally asked kids about sex.

“We will learn about diversity, equity, inclusion, privilege, and marginalization straight from the mouths of our Niles students as it relates to Gender Identity and Sexuality.” The agenda states.

The Niles Community Schools’ administration also handed out curriculum to teachers on how to indoctrinate children as young as 6-years-old into Critical Race Theory.

RADICAL SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS

Shabazz hasn’t been shy about publicly stating her radical beliefs either. In July of 2022, REAL News Michiana published a story about her controversial social media feeds.

In a post about Independence Day, Jennifer Shabazz wore a shirt with a “X” drawn through the country. Underneath the picture of the USA, the word “postponed” was written.

“Fourth of July is postponed until Nov 8!” She wrote in the post, seeming to refer to the 2022 general election.

The educator has also taken to social media to express her extreme passion for killing unborn children.

In one photo posted, she is shown holding a sign that reads “No uterus = No opinion.”

Another post is a picture of a message written in sidewalk chalk making the insane claim that “abortion saves lives.” In fact, in virtually 100 percent of cases, abortion ends in the death of a human.

Shabazz is also jumping into politics. In January, she submitted her paperwork to run for County Council District D in St. Joseph County, Indiana. While Shabazz works in Niles, Michigan, she lives in South Bend, Indiana.

ALLEGED SEXUAL PREDATOR HUSBAND

Muhammad Shabazz, husband of Jennifer Shabazz

Jennifer Shabazz is married to the former Democrat Board Member of the St. Joseph County Voter Registration Office, Muhammad Shabazz, who cost the County hundreds of thousands of dollars in a sexual harassment lawsuit just a couple of years ago.

While working as the Democrat Board Member in the St. Joseph County Voter Registration Office, Shabazz admitted to sexually harassing a Republican subordinate in the lead-up to the 2020 election. While Shabazz was “punished” by being forced to work from home for 2-weeks, he was not immediately terminated for his actions. At the time, positions in the office were appointed by the leaders of the two major parties and any changes in the office had to be done at the direction of the party chair. The St. Joseph County Democrat Party Chair ignored calls for Shabazz’ termination for nearly a year-and-a-half.

According to a federal sexual harassment lawsuit filed in early 2021, Shabazz was persistent in his advances toward his female Republican colleague. Despite her explaining she was happily married, he continued to harass her. He would ask her to kiss. He would call her with sexual advances. And, continued this behavior even after the alleged victim notified her superiors.

The victim and several others in the office complained about Shabazz’ behavior to the county Human Resources Director, Kim Karkiewicz. Karkiewicz directed Shabazz to work from home, but he returned two weeks later because Karkiewicz “lacked the authority to direct Shabazz’ work performance.”

Knowing she would have to work with her accused sexual harasser, the alleged victim in this case resigned.

The St. Joseph County GOP Chair at the time was Zach Potts, who since passed away in a car accident. At the time he told RNM his party and office was stonewalled for months by the Democrats and others within the County-City building.

“I learned of the incident on September 22nd (2020).” Potts said. “My two Republican workers have been called racial slurs, sexist slurs, had sexual innuendos made about them and were sexually harassed.”

Potts claimed he immediately contacted the Democrat Chair, the Democrat Vice-Chair and the county’s HR department calling for the immediate removal of Shabazz by the beginning of the following week.

“I heard nothing.” He said. “The county HR person responded quickly and assured me they take matters like this seriously, although we have found that to be false.”

Four days later, Potts said the county attorney contacted him explaining Shabazz was going to work from home until after the 2020 general election and he agreed to apologize.

“This response from the County HR and Attorney to sexual harassment was disturbing. A huge failure on the County’s part. (Not only was he sent to work from home during the busiest and most important weeks leading up to the election) to this day he has not apologized.” Potts said.

Potts said Shabazz also received overtime pay while working from home during what was supposed to be “punishment” for his behavior.

“The Democrat Chair can remove their appointed Board member at any time for any reason, yet has failed to remove him after committing sexual harassment against a female co-worker and female subordinate.” Potts added. “I demand that the Democrat Chair remove their alleged sexual predator Democrat Board member. If he won’t, then he needs to resign.”

“This is an office that the public interacts with on a daily basis and they should not have to worry about becoming a victim when interacting with their local government.” Potts concluded.

The sexual harassment case was eventually settled and the county was forced to pay Shabazz’ alleged victim nearly $100,000. Shabazz was eventually forced to step down from his county position in 2022.

Muhammad Shabazz currently serves on the Portage Township Board under Portage Township Trustee Jason Critchlow, who is the former Democrat County Chair who gave Shabazz the job in the Voter Registration Office to begin with.
