SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Police finally arrested a man nearly a year-and-a-half after he abandoned his son following the child being shot in the leg, foot and hand. Deputies with the St. Joseph County Police Department arrested 25-year-old Jaylen Green earlier this week.
According to charging documents, Green had his 2-year-old son in the Emerald Point Apartments when the shooting occurred in May of 2021. Green told witnesses that the child has just shot himself. Instead of sticking around to render aid to the toddler, Green gave the little boy to an apartment complex employee before fleeing the area.
Charging documents show the child is “permanently disfigured and disabled” from the shooting. The bullet severed the 2-year-old’s index finger, traveled completely through his thigh and struck his big toe. The full police narrative regarding the incident can be read by subscribers below.
