SOUTH BEND, Ind. — REAL News Michiana has confirmed the abortion clinic in South Bend, Whole Woman’s Health, has closed for at least a few weeks.
Several people reached out to RNM after seeing that patients had not been going to the facility. RNM called the front desk and was told by the receptionist that they were not seeing patients and were instead referring women to other facilities across the state, including Merrillville.
The receptionist would not tell RNM why the facility was closed and would only say they hoped to take patients by the end of August. However, other folks who called the clinic tell RNM they were told the facility was having a hard time finding doctors to work with them. As of Monday, the clinic was still not scheduling patients, according to sources who called to schedule appointments.
RNM reached out to the abortion chain’s Director of Communications, Jackie Dilworth, for comment. She sent the following email.
Hi Clifton,
Here is our statement.
Whole Woman’s Health of South Bend is open and scheduling patients. We know that our presence is vital to the health, safety, and rights of Hoosiers and we are proud to serve this community with compassionate, quality abortion care.
RNM responded with the following message:
Jackie,
Thank you for the response.
This is factually untrue. I cannot use this statement. I know for a fact that patients are not being scheduled and instead being referred to Merrillville or Indianapolis.
If you’d like to send me a new, truthful, statement, I will be more than happy to use it.
Thank you,
Clifton
Dilworth replied with the following:
This is not untrue as we have started to schedule patients this week. Given the nature of your writing, this is all we are going to give.
RNM has written several stories about the clinic, specifically the volunteer patient escorts, many of whom self-identify as anarchist Antifa activists. You can see videos of their radical tactics here.
One of the volunteers is also being investigated by the Capitol Police for nearly running over Congresswoman Jackie Walorski with his car. That incident happened while the Congresswoman was praying outside of the clinic earlier this year. You can read that story here.
Whole Woman’s Health is currently operating as an unlicensed facility in the state of Indiana. A federal judge allowed the clinic to open while a lawsuit makes its way through the courts.
