WATCH: Dem. politician embarrassed while trying to campaign during school board meeting

Democrat Candidate for Indiana House District 5, Heidi Beidinger, scowls at Penn Harris Madison School Board Member Matt Chaffee after he explains she is breaking school district policy by campaigning on school grounds during the February 12th, 2024, PHM School Board Meeting.

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — A radical Democrat candidate for the Indiana House of Representatives was shut down in embarrassing fashion during the Penn Harris Madison School Board meeting on Monday night when she attempted to use the meeting as a campaign stump speech.

Democrat Heidi Beidinger, who is running for the District 5 Indiana House seat, took to the podium during the public comment section at the end of the PHM School Board meeting. She immediately started her speech by introducing herself and her candidacy. While School Board President Chris Riley (who himself is an attorney) stared at Beidinger with adoration, Board Member Matt Chaffee called for a point of order as Beidinger was blatantly breaking school district policy.

“I am here to introduce myself, or reintroduce myself to the PHM community, and to let you all know that I am running for Indiana State Representative District 5.” Beidinger started her speech by stating.

“She’s not allow to say that.” Board Member Matt Chaffee interjected. “Policy number 9700, I don’t think she can campaign on school property and that’s what this is right now.”

Board President Riley appeared to scold Chaffee for interrupting Beidinger’s bizarre speech, then directed the Board Attorney to review the policy. After several minutes, the Board Attorney determined Chaffee was correct in his interjection and directed Beidinger to not discuss her campaign.

“That was my intention. So I’m glad we’re all in agreement on that.” Beidinger strangely stated after her reprimand for breaking district policy.

According to district policy 9700, “Corporation facilities (cannot) be used for advertising or promoting the interests of any nonschool agency or organization, political, public or private, without the approval of the Board or its delegated representative… the Board shall not permit the use of any type of education material, program or equipment in its curricular or extracurricular activities or at any time during the school day if such materials, programs, or equipment contain partisan political messages.”

Following the meeting, Riley’s reported significant other was seen hugging Beidinger. Riley then spent several minutes speaking to Beidinger himself. After Riley realized he was being watched by several conservative parents, he ended the conversation with Beidinger by stating “we will talk later.”

BEIDINGER’S RADICALISM

This is the second time Beidinger has sought the District 5 seat. Despite being annihilated at the polls in 2022, Beidinger seems eager for a rematch in 2024. As a reminder, in 2022, she lost to Republican State Representative Dale DeVon in a 57% to 43% landslide.

In 2022, Beidinger’s campaign communications director wrote that she was hopeful COVID killed enough District 5 Republicans to give them a win over incumbent Dale Devon (R).

“I’ve been thinking and saying this for the last 2 years.” Stephanie Wilson posted to Twitter. “It feels gross to say, but it’s possible enough Rs died from COVID to really change the totals at the district level in red states/red areas.”

During the campaign, Beidinger also ran unapologetically on gun control and abortion and has continued going after Republicans regarding public health and the party’s work to put an end to child genital mutilation. In April 2023, she simply posted a picture that states, “Vote Every F*cking Republican Out.”

BEIDINGER AND THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Beidinger was ousted from the St. Joseph County Health Board last year. However, during COVID, she was the President of the board and was responsible for pushing mass lockdowns, business closures, mask mandates, Critical Race Theory initiatives and pro-abortion services.
