NILES, Mich. — A new conservative majority on the Brandywine Community Schools Board of Trustees is working to eliminate pornographic material from school libraries. However, in that push, one English teacher in particular has been fighting to make sure the inappropriate material stays put. It turns out, RNM has discovered that same teacher has been pushing for Critical Race Theory, anti-gun activism and radical gender theory.
Earlier this year, the school board created the Explicit Material Book Review Committee. The committee’s purpose is simple: Inventory books that contain sexual content, create a checkout protocol in which students are allowed to check them out (including parental consent) and create a process to vet new material being admitted.
Since the creation of that committee and others, 26-year veteran teacher, Debra “Debbie” Carew, has attended nearly every board meeting to express her displeasure with the committee that is simply ensuring kids aren’t being given full access to pornographic material. Instead, she has accused the board of attacking teachers and ignoring actual problems in their push to protect children. Carew has also been the President of the Brandywine District Education Association for the past 11 years.
“You initiated committees… to create a distrust between the community and schools or teachers regarding sexuality, books, race and so called leftist indoctrination.” Carew, an English teacher at Brandywine Middle/High School, said at a board meeting in June.
“I just really feel there are bigger issues than books on shelves. I feel like the committees that have been formed might not necessarily address the real, bigger problems here at Brandywine.” Carew said in March after laying out a multitude of derogatory accusations against the new board.
Carew has used the creation of the committees, along with the board’s push to give educational rights back to parents and away from teachers’ unions, to attack the new board members as well.
“If you don’t trust the teachers here, unionized or not, I’m not sure where we go from here.” Carew screamed at the board during a meeting in May. “Do better!”
CAREW’S RADICAL SOCIAL MEDIA
Carew’s social media accounts show she is active in leftist activism along with promoting radical agendas including Critical Race Theory and transgenderism in children, along with pushing an anti-gun agenda.
She’s posted the Pyramid of White Supremacy, which was removed from Penn Harris Madison social emotional learning curriculum following an RNM investigation. She has raised money for the Trevor Project which has pushed for the castration and mutilation of children with gender dysphoria. She has also donated to the OutCenter of Southwest Michigan, an LGBTQ organization which has infiltrated schools in a push to create LGBTQ youth clubs and train teachers on how to help children change their gender.

An argument being made by some is that pornographic books do not exist in the libraries at Brandywine Schools. Below is a list of the books that have been identified. All of them contain sexually explicit content.
