NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — The former Vice President of the Indiana State Teacher’s Association is currently under investigation after it was discovered he sent sexually suggestive messages to a student on social media. Ben Yoder, who is currently the Band Director at Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate School, stepped down from his position on the ISTA following controversy regarding racist and sexual social media posts. RNM published a story regarding Yoder’s inappropriate social media content last year. According to a story by the Daily Signal, HSE Schools are currently investigating the inappropriate messages he sent to the minor student.
According to the Daily Signal, in the messages, which have been reviewed by The Daily Signal, Yoder asks the student, an incoming senior in high school, when he would be out of school and suggests the student get “in trouble” with Yoder. When the student asked what Yoder meant by “trouble,” Yoder responded, “Let your imagination run wild I guess lol.”
Yoder is a 37-year-old orchestra director, who has taught at Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate School for 13 years. He is a 2007 graduate from Ball State University with a bachelor’s in music education, and was featured in an alumni article titled “In Tune With His Students” in 2017.
MORE INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR
In May of 2022, REAL News Michiana reported on Yoder's extremely inappropriate social media accounts. According to Yoder’s bio on the ISTA website, he has been teaching in Indiana public schools for 15 years. During that time, Yoder has regularly posted sexual content on the same platforms where he promotes children, schools and his teaching colleagues.
In one post, Yoder brags about having male genitalia swinging in his face. In another post, he shows a flyer from what appears to be a gay stripping event with pictures of half-naked men in sexual poses. He also posts about being a gay teacher and the importance of “representation” and “safe spaces” for children. He also promotes the use of preferred pronouns, reinforcing radical gender theory.
