Baby tests positive for meth, cops arrest mother

Mystesia Yeager, Mugshot: St. Joseph County Jail

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. — The mother of a 9-month-old baby is facing charges of Child Neglect after her baby tested positive for Methamphetamine. According to detectives, 31-year-old Mystesia Yeager allowed her baby to somehow ingest the drug while the baby was in her care. The incident happened in August of last year. Yeager is back in jail on the charges for failure to appear.

According to court documents, it was discovered that the baby had ingested the drugs after the child had been dropped off with the father. As soon as the father got the baby, he noticed the child was not acting normal and took the baby to a hospital in Plymouth, where he lives.

“Medical personnel noted that (the baby) was constantly crying and fussy, with a temperature of 101 degrees, was constantly moving all of her extremities, and had a high heart rate. Doctors did not feel that (the baby’s) fever was due to an infection. Testing was performed and doctors found that (the baby) tested positive for methamphetamine, which was dangerous for (the baby’s) life and health. She was transported to the PICU Unit at Memorial Hospital where she stayed for some time as they treated her. Eventually, (the baby) was cleared to be released from the hospital.” Court documents state.

Further interviews and investigating showed Yeager had taken the baby to stay at an unknown hotel for a couple of days with her. Yeager has a history of drug abuse. She is currently being held in the St. Joseph County Jail with no bond.
