ANOTHER Youth Softball Coach Arrested for Child Molestation — 2nd Coach on Team to Face Child Molestation Charges

Bradley Mathis, Mugshot: St. Joseph County Jail

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — REAL News Michiana has uncovered another coach for a local youth softball team has been arrested and charged with Child Molestation. Bradley (Brad) Mathis, 47, was charged with the crimes last week. Mathis was a coach for the OC Crush youth softball league out of Penn Park. In April, another OC Crush coach, 45-year-old Michael (Mike) Feltz, was arrested for having sex with a 13-year-old player.

According to charging documents, Mathis started a sexual relationship with a girl he was coaching in 2018 when the child was only 9-years-old. The abuse continued until earlier this year.

Court documents state Mathis started the sexual abuse by showing the girl pornography. Within a year, Mathis began touching the girl, according to investigators and victim testimony.

“She also indicated that on several occasions, with the last being in early 2021, she had sent Mathis nude photos and videos of herself at his direction.” Court documents state. “She stated that she had deleted most of these at his direction. Victim 1 stated that during their text messaging, Mathis gave names to his genitals and her genitals so that they could speak in code. His penis was named Carl, and her vagina was named Penelope.”

According to investigators, a forensic review was done of the child’s cell phone that recovered some messages that were “of a very explicit sexual nature” between the child and Mathis.

While being interviewed by detectives, Mathis admitted to molesting the child. He was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail last week.

Mathis was arrested on the molestation charges only 3 days before another man who coached on the same team was sentenced to 40 years in prison for molesting a child player.

According to arrest documents, 45-year-old Michael Feltz had a sexual relationship with a minor player from October of 2021 through March of this year. Feltz was the coach, director and president of the OC Crush youth softball league in Mishawaka that has since gone defunct.

  1. When I was on the board of a local Little League anyone who would come into contact with children had to go through a background check. Coach’s, concession workers, groundskeepers, etc. I don’t know if it would have helped in this case but it is a good place to start.
