SOUTH BEND, Ind. — South Bend Police Officers arrested a 36-year-old man for slapping a random 5-year-old girl in the face and then heading to a park where he cut the head off of a goose.
According to court documents, Joshua Rogers, of Mishawaka, was near Leeper Park on July 23rd when he slapped a 5-year-old girl in the face twice. The child and her mother were riding bicycles in the area. According to the mother, Rogers said something to the child, when she stopped to ask what he was doing, Rogers is accused of slapping the child in the face with such force that she fell off of her bicycle. The mother and the child then fled the area and called police.
Shortly after, officers received a call from a man who had witnessed Rogers decapitate a goose in the park. When officers arrived and approached Rogers, he was sitting on the ground with feathers in his hair. Officers observed the severed head of a goose, but could not find its body. Rogers claimed he also did not know where the body of the goose was. He also denied killing the goose and cutting off its head and instead claimed he witnessed people trying to harm the geese and he showed up to help the birds.
Rogers eventually stood up, revealing the body of the goose. According to police, he had been sitting on the bird’s decapitated body the whole time.
Rogers was arrested and charged just last month for vandalizing multiple businesses in Downtown South Bend, including the South Bend Chocolate Factory.
