PHM Opening Diversity and Inclusion Meeting to Public After State Says it Broke the Law

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — The Penn Harris Madison School Corporation is having its first PUBLIC meeting of the Superintendent’s Advisory Council (SAC) on Monday night. The SAC was developed in 2020 following the death of George Floyd and the ensuing Black Lives Matter riots. Since its creation, SAC meetings had been illegally held in secret, closed-door sessions. Parental complaints about the illegal meetings lead to an investigation by the State of Indiana. The state eventually notified the school district that it must allow the public to attend the SAC meetings.

According to PHM’s website, “the Superintendent’s Advisory Council (SAC) will serve as a Steering Committee to further the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) recommendations made by the SAC at the end of the 2020-21 school year. The objective of the SAC Steering Committee this year will be to serve in an advisory role regarding the implementation of the district’s DEI goals proposed by the SAC last year. P-H-M values and celebrates diversity and seeks to work on eliminating racial injustices and discrimination within the school district as outlined by the P-H-M Board of School Trustees’ Resolution passed on July 1, 2020.”

In that resolution, the PHM Board of School Trustees wrote, “we the members of the Penn-Harris-Madison Board of School Trustees and Administration, acknowledge that we must urgently end acts motivated by racial animus and bias, remediate racial inequities, and end any form of racism in our schools.” However, the board never mentioned a single example of racism within the schools and has since been pushing racist Critical Race Theory curriculum onto students through things like Social Emotional Learning, which at one point included a “Pyramid of White Supremacy” that claimed things like MAGA were white supremacists.

Tonight’s meeting is scheduled for 6:30pm at Schmucker Middle School.
