WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. — REAL News Michiana has obtained video of a Whitley County Consolidated Schools’ Board of Trustees Member turning his back on another parent during a meeting earlier this week. The board’s vice president, Timothy Bloom, was being criticized by multiple parents during Monday night’s meeting for an obvious conflict of interest.
“Bloom, you’re a thug.” Steve Thomas, a parent and U.S. Army combat veteran, said at the meeting. “I’m disgusted. All of you work for us.”
Last month, an attorney with Bloom’s firm (Bloom, Gates, Shipman and Whiteleather) sent another parent a letter demanding that parent not communicate with any teacher, staff or administrator about anything, including issues dealing with his own children, after that parent had been outspoken about the district’s masking policies. The parent never threatened anyone and was never alleged to be a threat in the letter itself.
“We can talk to anybody here.” Thomas said while addressing the board. “We can talk to any administrator we want.” At that point, Bloom turned his chair around to face the wall.
“Turn your back. You’re a scared child.” Thomas said in reaction.
“I was there to support (the parent who is being threatened with legal action) and had a speech written. I scrapped it.” Thomas told REAL News Michiana. “I didn’t even use it. No matter what you say to them (the board), they don’t want to work for the parents. They need to understand they work for us. But, it seems they can’t listen to our grievances and address them.”
“The fact that they have Bloom, a thug, on the school board and also a partner in a law firm going after a parent and his first amendment rights… it’s illegal. It’s against the people.” Thomas continued.
Bloom also turned his back on the parent his law firm is currently threatening. You can watch the video of that here.
