MISHAWAKA, Ind. — Despite continued promises that Critical Race Theory is not being taught at Penn Harris Madison Schools, the district is considering setting aside $150,000 to pay one of the state’s most well known race hustling CRT enthusiasts. The money would be used for Social Emotional Learning AND Diversity, Equity and Inclusion professional development — described as presentations to “build-up staff and students.” The money would be paid to two speakers, one of them being Dr. Lori Desautels, the founder of Revelations in Education. She is scheduled to speak at PHM on February 10th, 2022.
Desautels is a radical Critical Race Theory enthusiast and anti-police activist. Her website includes a section for teachers called “RACIAL AND SOCIAL EQUITY RESOURCES.” Examples of those resources include:

Plus, a video by one of the foremost leaders in CRT, Ibram X. Kendi
She also provides a graphic that describes “tasks for white people” and “tasks for people of color.” The graphic explains white people are privileged and people of color have been “socialized to take care of white people.”
Desautels’ social media is also full of leftist talking points and propaganda. Below are just a couple of examples from her Twitter feed, where she also claims to have helped construct the Indiana Department of Education’s Social Emotional Learning competencies.
The PHM Board of School Trustees was set to vote on allocating the $150,000 for Desautels and another speaker at this past Monday’s school board meeting. However, parents spoke out against the allocation during public comment and the issue was pulled from the consent agenda and will be up for discussion at a later date. Below is one parent’s remarks.
PROMISE NOT TO TEACH CRT
The continued push to teach radical racist CRT curriculum at PHM continues, even after Superintendent Jerry Thacker blatantly lied to parents about its presence. Below is a letter Thacker sent to PHM parents earlier this summer.
Dear P-H-M Families,
At the Monday, June 21, 2021, P-H-M Board meeting, I shared information regarding P-H-M’s social-emotional learning and diversity initiatives. As part of the growing national discussion about race relations, many parents are reaching out inquiring about critical race theory.
As I stated at the Board meeting and several members of the administration have stated in response to parent emails, P-H-M is not teaching critical race theory.
Many people have also requested more information about our Social Emotional Learning and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion lessons.
To help clear up misinformation and misconceptions of what we are teaching and our intentions, P-H-M will be hosting public information sessions before the start of the school year in August. We are still in the planning stages, but we will be sharing information with everyone very soon.
We hope that our students, parents, staff and community will join us to learn more. Stay tuned!
