SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A South Bend Police Officer is in jail tonight, facing charges of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl. The incident was reported to the Mishawaka Police Department two weeks ago. Since then, Officer Timothy Barber has been on paid leave, according to REAL News Michiana sources.
Multiple sources tell RNM that Barber had met the teen at a local fast-food restaurant. There were rumors that he would meet the girl in Mishawaka in his squad car while on duty. RNM is working to confirm those allegations.
Barber is being charged with 6 crimes related to the relationship:
Count I: Child Seduction, a Level 5 Felony, Count II: Child Seduction, a Level 5 Felony, Count III: Public Indecency, a Class A Misdemeanor, Count IV: Official Misconduct, a Level 6 Felony, Count V: Public Nudity, a Class B Misdemeanor, Count VI: Official Misconduct, a Level 6 Felony.
Barber has been an officer with SBPD for about 2 and a half years.
