SOUTH BEND, Ind. — St. Joseph County Councilwoman Amy Drake accosted REAL News Michiana journalist Clifton French in a profanity laden tirade while with her children at the County-City Building in Downtown South Bend on Friday. RNM was walking into the government building to work on a completely different story when Drake came storming through the doors of the entryway with her kids.
“Motherf*cker.” French heard a woman say, before looking up and seeing Councilwoman Drake. “You wrote a fake story about me.” At the same time, Drake’s youngest child was saying hello — “Hi Clifton!” — before his eyes widened in disbelief as he watched his mother’s crazed rant.
“Are you really doing this in front of your children?” RNM asked.
“Yes I am.” Drake responded.
RNM’s Clifton French then pulled out his cell phone and started recording the unhinged scene which was occuring in the lobby of the County-City Building during early voting where several senior citizens and others casting their ballots were also present.
“So you’re taping me?” Drake asked, as she toned down the obscene language knowing she was being recorded.
“What I wanted to tell you is that you wrote a story that didn’t happen.” Dake said.
“What did I write?” RNM responded.
“You wrote an entry of a story that never occured.” Drake said.
“What did I write? What was the story?” RNM said.
“It was the story you wrote about me.” She said.
“The story I wrote about you? Everything I wrote about you was completely factual and you know it.” RNM replied. “And, by the way, why are you doing this in front of your children?”
“Because I cannot believe that you did it.” Drake said while standing with her hands on her hips.
“That I did what? That I did my job?” RNM responded.
“That you made a lie. Umm, that you lied as a journalist.” Drake said.
“You are an actual crazy person.” RNM stated.
RNM then told Drake, whose husband is an attorney, that if she feels the report was defamatory, she should filed a lawsuit. Drake then stormed out of the building.
Drake was referring to an RNM investigative story published 23 days ago highlighting Drake’s unhinged behavior, attacks against conservatives and several lies she has told while in office. RNM backed up the story with a multitude of text messages, first hand testimony and interviews from several members of the St. Joseph County GOP.
Drake later admitted to her followers in an email that the text messages put out in the story were accurate. However, she claimed she didn’t “recall” having one particular phone conversation in which she went on another profanity laced tirade. RNM can ensure Drake and our readers that the call, along with everything else in the story, is thoroughly documented.
This incident is just the latest example of Drake’s increasingly unstable behavior, causing many Republican elected officials and party members to distance themselves from her and privately speaking to RNM about their hopes that she resign from office.

Smoke meet fire… Mrs. Drake has an opportunity to assess her stance and personal issues. Friends and family need to work together to help the situation. Tremendous pressure being an R in an R hostile smoke-filled backroom Democrat city of South Bend and battling to keep county positions to balance the leftists. The elevated emotion issues need attention.
