SOUTH BEND, Ind. — REAL News Michiana has discovered the Biden administration’s Department of Health and Human Services awarded Memorial Hospital of South Bend a $1-million dollar grant to stop “racial bias” in healthcare in St. Joseph and Elkhart Counties.
According to government records, HHS awarded the grant to Memorial Hospital of South Bend Inc. in May of 2024. Funds for the grant are to be given to Memorial through March of 2029, and will top out at approximately $1,008,030.
“The implementation of a customized cycle to respectful care (CRC) model aims to diminish bias (against black people) and foster trust,” A summary of the grant reads. “MFJ seeks to convene a community consortium, fostering cross-sector partnerships and communities of practice.”
The grant assumes, without providing any evidence, that doctors at Memorial Hospital and the healthcare system itself are inherently racist. The grant money is to be used “educating” medical providers about their assumed racist tendencies.
“MFJ providers will undergo comprehensive training programs aligned seamlessly with the CRC model,” the grant reads.
