MISHAWAKA, Ind. — The Penn Harris Madison School Board is holding a special meeting tonight to discuss a resolution seeking the resignation of Board Member Matt Chaffee. This comes as fallout from a REAL News Michiana investigation last month, uncovering multiple alleged incidents of Chaffee paying for sex from prostitutes.

The resolution cites RNM’s story along with numerous complaints from concerned citizens.

According to the resolution, the School Board’s attorney reached out to Chaffee following RNM’s story asking for him to address the allegations. Chaffee used a lawyer to respond to the request. According to the resolution, the lawyer simply stated, “there will be no response forthcoming from Mr. Chaffee”.

The resolution reads as follows:

WHEREAS, through the recent publication of a local news outlet the Board of School Trustees (the “School Board”) of the Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation (the “School Corporation”) has learned of certain alleged activity and actions of Trustee Chaffee which if true, would constitute criminal sexual misconduct.

WHEREAS, the allegations of Trustee Chaffee’s misconduct include:

a. Multiple alleged incidents involving prostitutes.

b. One recent incident involving a prostitute in which the prostitute robbed Trustee Chaffee and stole his wallet.

c. That Trustee Chaffee’s sexual appetite for prostitutes has spanned the country.

d. Trustee Chaffee suffers with problems of alcohol abuse.

WHEREAS, Trustee Chaffee has allegedly admitted to the publisher of the local news outlet that he has in fact engaged in unlawful activity by paying prostitutes for sex.

WHEREAS, following publication of the article by the local news outlet School Board Members and School Corporation administrators have been contacted by members of the community expressing their concern regarding the alleged activities of Trustee Chaffee and voicing that he is not fit to serve as a Trustee of the School Corporation.

WHEREAS, Trustee Chaffee was contacted by the Board Attorney and offered an opportunity to address these allegations. Through his attorney, Trustee Chaffee responded, “there will be no response forthcoming from Mr. Chaffee”.

WHEREAS, a special meeting of the School Corporation Board of Trustees was held on May 14, 2024, to review and address these allegations set forth above.

NOW, THEREFORE, the resolution to which the undersigned Trustees of the School Corporation consent to and adopt, reads as follows:

BE IT RESOLVED that the School Board calls upon Trustee Matthew Chaffee to immediately resign his position as a Trustee of the Penn Harris Madison School Corporation.

BOARD PRESIDENT ASKED TO RESIGN

This comes just a month after Chaffee himself asked PHM School Board President Chris Riley to resign amid allegations of potential criminal conduct and policy violations stemming from political attacks levied by Riley toward a vocal and critical parent.

Despite being contacted by numerous members of the public with concerns of Riley’s actions and fitness for office, the school board never addressed his behavior with a resolution, special meeting or official call for his resignation.

The special meeting tonight is scheduled for 7:00pm at the Educational Services Center (55900 Bittersweet Road | Mishawaka, IN 46545).
