ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. — Republican Candidate for the Elkhart County Commissioner’s District 3 seat, Shayne LaCounte, withdrew his candidacy today while throwing his support behind Candidate Steve Boussom in his bid to unseat current Republican Suzanne Weirick.
“I have reconsidered my candidacy for Elkhart County Commissioner and as of 9:00am this morning, have filed the paperwork to be removed.” Lacounte said in a written statement provided to REAL News Michiana. “I and Steve Boussom… have met and he has confirmed our conservative philosophies are inline with one another’s and I feel we need to be more unified within the Republican party. I believe Steve will be a good representative for the great people of Elkhart County, and I ask all who support me, to support Steve Boussom May 7th, in his quest to win the Republican nomination for Elkhart County Commissioner to keep Elkhart County conservative. I will be following Steve and working with him in the background moving forward toward May 7th, and ask you all to do the same. I’ve met a lot of great people during this venture, and I treasure all the new friendships I have built. Now I can continue comfortably exploring some new endeavors.”
