WATCH: The Miracle of Life — a Testimony

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — On November 16th, my wife and I welcomed the newest member of our family. Trudy Console French was born just before 8:00pm, weighing a perfect 7.5lbs. Named after a Charlie Daniels’ song and her late grandmother, this girl is amazing. That’s the sanitized description of how this bundle of joy came to be. She’s a beautiful, bright-eyed angel, who is cooing in her bassinet next to me as I write this story… and who just soiled herself, meaning I’m taking a quick break to change a diaper.

Okay, I’m back.

As I turn these thoughts into words on this digital page, I can’t help but think about the journey it took to get here. I am so blessed. I now have two amazing children. Her big brother, Elliot, is absolutely in love with his little sis. He’s constantly checking in on her while she sleeps and blows her kisses from across the room.

All of that being said, labor was not easy. Poor Trudy’s umbilical cord was wrapped around her. Her little heart rate was dropping, so we had to opt for a cesarean delivery. Trudy’s mother was a champion through it all.

We also had a great group of doctors and nurses who performed the procedure with precision. Channeling the hands of God, they pulled Trudy into the world. She was screaming from the beginning to let everyone know she had arrived.

I have not always been a religious person. But, seeing Trudy pulled from her mother’s womb and witnessing those first breaths, it’s impossible not to believe. This is his creation.

We delivered at the amazing Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. I cannot say enough great things about the work of all of the staff there. From the doctors to the nurses to the cleaning crew and the food workers — this place is top tier. Everyone worked together to make sure mom, baby and I were comfortable and taken care of. They truly know how important their work is and I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart.

It took a very long time for me to find God. I ignored the Grace of God for too long. However, God never gave up on me. He chipped away at my refusal to see him. He introduced himself by keeping me safe while at war in Iraq. He showed me he was still watching over with the gift of my loving son. He reinforced his existence by putting me in a position to meet my beautiful, God loving wife. And, he cemented his reality in my heart on November 16th, 2022.

I am blessed.

  1. I was worried that something was wrong last week when you did not post for a few days. Congratulations on your beautiful daughter. Have a blessed Thanksgiving.

  2. FANTASTIC!

My 5 girls were born in Mexico. I was able to video record one of the deliveries. They let me cut the umbilical cord, and for some reason we still have a piece of it saved.

May the Lord protect you and your family.

  3. Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. I have seen all 4 of my children come in to the world My second to last was breach but by the grace of god she made it to the world. She had the cord around her neck too. Scary moments for sure. My last child was a C section like your wife’s. Seeing the miracle of birth is a special moment you will always carry in your heart.

I was once told god gives the gift of special needs people to special people. You and you family are truly blessed. My heart, my thoughts and my prayers will always be with you and your family.
