ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. — REAL News Michiana has learned Congresswoman Jackie Walorski has died in a crash in Elkhart County.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, the crash, involving two vehicles, happened around 12:30pm near the intersection of State Roads 19 and 119. Four people died in the crash, including the 58-year-old congresswoman and St. Joseph County GOP Chairman, Zach Potts. Potts was 27-years-old.

28-year-old Emma Thomson of Washington, DC, also died.

Walorski, Potts and Thomson were all in the same vehicle.

56-year-old Edith Schmucker of Nappanee also died in the accident. She was the sole occupant of her vehicle. The Sheriff’s Office initially reported that Schmucker crossed the centerline while headed north on SR 19 causing the head-on collision. They have since corrected that statement, now stating the other vehicle, driven by Potts, was headed north and crossed the center, causing the crash.

Walorski is the Congresswoman for Indiana’s 2nd District.
