Girl Scouts Attend South Bend Drag Show for Kids — Tip Drag Queens in Cookies

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — REAL News Michiana has uncovered pictures and social media posts showing a local Girl Scout Troop was taken to a drag show for kids, where they tipped the drag queens with Girl Scout cookies.

“Happy PRIDE month from our troop to yours. Troop 00271 held an amazing Speak Love painting PRIDE history event on June 2nd with a lovely group of attendees from various parts of council and tonight 00271 donated to the LGBTQ+ Center of South Bend and attended the all ages Drag show!! We even tipped in Girl Scout Cookies!!!” The post, by Nicole Wyatt Wiles, says. Wiles appears to be the leader for Girl Scout Troop 00271 out of Osceola.

The post includes several pictures, including one appearing to show a little girl tipping a drag queen with a box of cookies at a drag show for kids on June 3rd.

RNM reached out to Wiles via phone call, text and email. As of publication, she has not responded.

RNM Previously covered the planned drag show for kids at the South Bend LGBTQ Center, which was offering free admission to children 4-years-old and younger.

According to a Facebook Advertisement for the event, “After a two year covid induced hiatus All Ages Drag is back! Join us June 3rd at the LGBTQ Center for the kickoff to Pride Season in Michiana! Advance Tickets are $10 for Adults(18+), $5 for Youth (5-17), Children 4 and under are free.”

The center, which is located in Downtown South Bend, was opened via a ribbon cutting by former Mayor, Pete Buttigieg (currently the US Secretary of Transportation) in 2016. The organization’s website is full of pictures of Buttigieg and his husband, Chasten.

Chasten was recently under fire for a video that surfaced of him leading a pledge to the gay pride flag with a group of children.

REAL News Michiana has discovered the organization’s president is a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in St. Joseph County. According to Secretary of State records, Katharine Williams is listed as the President of the LGBTQ Center. RNM reached out to Prosecutor Ken Cotter’s office with the following questions via email.

“Does Ms. Williams promote the potential sexualization of children through events like this? As the president of the organization, was she aware of this event? What is Ms. Williams record on prosecuting sexual crimes against children? Ms. Williams obviously represents the prosecutor’s office, does the prosecutor’s office endorse and/or support drag shows targeted at children?” As of publication, RNM has not received a response.

The Treasurer of the organization also has ties to government employment in South Bend. Sonja Karnovsky worked as a Business Analyst and Economic Empowerment Specials for the City of South Bend from 2018-2020, once again, under Mayor Buttigieg. She was then made the Interim Director of CDFI Friendly South Bend. The current Director of CDFI Friendly South Bend is Sam Centellas, who has openly donated to an actual Satanic organization. Centellas is also the President of the Board of the South Bend Empowerment Zone school district, which is openly anti-police. The CEO of the Empowerment Zone kicked a police officer out of an elementary school during a walk through the day after a school shooting threat last year.

RNM has traced “All Ages Drag Show” events to the LGBTQ Center going back as early as 2019, where the events have been promoted on the organization’s Facebook page.
