SOUTH BEND, Ind. — REAL News Michiana has identified a Riley High School Social Studies Teacher as the man who posted multiple celebratory comments about the assassination of conservative icon Charlie Kirk to Facebook. South Bend Community School Corporation teacher Brett Maurer made the insensitive posts shortly after Kirk was shot in the neck by a sniper while at a speaking event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
“With all due respect, Charlie Kirk can suck it.” Maurer stated in one post. “I call that manifestation.”
REAL News Michiana reached out to Maurer and officials with the school district for comment. Maurer did not respond. A district spokesperson sent the following statement defending Maurer’s comments:
“The South Bend Community School Corporation does not endorse the sentiment expressed in the recent social media post. However, we acknowledge that our staff members have the right to express personal opinions, and we do not comment on individual perspectives.” The spokesperson wrote.
