SOUTH BEND, Ind. — REAL News Michiana has learned a police officer for Vincennes University in Southern Indiana has been arrested in South Bend for several Domestic Violence related crimes. Those crimes include felonies for Strangulation and Criminal Confinement.
South Bend Police arrested 23-year-old Bernado Malone on January 16th, for a warrant issued out of Vanderburgh County, where Malone currently resides. Malone was born and raised in South Bend. It’s unclear why he was in Northern Indiana at this time — whether he was on the run knowing he had a warrant pending or if he was simply visiting family and friends.
The charges he’s facing also include multiple violations of a Protection Order. According to court records, a protection order had been issued against malone on December 12th, of last year. That order, once again, came from Vanderburgh County. For privacy, the victim/protected person is not listed in the order against Malone.
Malone is currently being held at the St. Joseph County Jail waiting to be extradited to Vanderburgh county where criminal court proceedings will take place.
REAL News reached out to a spokesperson for Vincennes University and the Vincennes University Police Department for comment. We never received a response.
WHO IS MALONE?
The Vincennes University website lists Malone as a Police Officer out of Vigo Hall. According to Malone’s Linkedin page, he became a police officer for the university in August of 2024. Prior to that Malone was a photojournalists for WFIE 14News located in Evansville, Indiana. Malone’s Linkedin page also lists him as previously working as the Public Relations official for the Clerk’s Office in the City of South Bend.
Bernado Malone is the son of well known “activist” and career felon/fraudster Vernado Malone. Vernado Malone is most known for starting a non-profit in the Michiana area in order to gain access to a local funeral home in which he would take and share full-body pictures of nude corpses.
