ELKHART, Ind. — REAL News Michiana has learned the City of Elkhart’s Communications Director, Corrine Straight, has been fired from her position within the Mayor’s Office. According to a post she made to TikTok, she was fired on Friday for inappropriate content she consistently posts on social media.

“I got fired for the first time.” Straight said in her post on Friday night. “Displeasure with the content I am creating here on TikTok was the reason cited for my termination… it was completely unexpected so, I have a lot of feelings to process.”

Her firing came exactly one day after she called Lieutenant Governor elect, Micah Beckwith, a “white supremacist”, “misogynist” and “Christian Nationalist” in a TikTok video.

In September, RNM published a story detailing how Straight has been making videos openly attacking conservative constituents, going as far as call one person a “bitch” while advocating for radical anti-gun and pro-abortion stances. In several instances she has blatantly lied about statements made by people such as Republican Vice Presidential Candidate JD Vance, then doubled down when she was called out for her dishonesty. She also laments that thousands of babies have been born, instead of being aborted following Indiana’s anti-abortion laws.

It’s important to note, Straight was responsible for turning off all comments on the City of Elkhart’s Facebook page earlier this summer, prompting widespread backlash throughout the community. The move was made in order to silence opposition and criticism to several government run programs and an alleged financial scandal involving the Lerner Theater. At the time Straight cited “harassment” of City staff as her reasoning for shutting the comments down.

“We don’t see the same type of abusive and attacking and threatening language happening in phone calls or happening in face to face conversations like we see on Facebook,” Straight told WSBT in June.

Despite Straight’s concern for “abusive and attacking” language against city employees, she appears to not reciprocate the respect she’s demanding toward conservative citizens who she personally attacks on her personal TikTok page on a near daily basis.

STRAIGHT LIES ABOUT STATEMENTS FROM JD VANCE

For nearly a week following the tragic school shooting outside of Atlanta, Georgia, Straight took to TikTok to spread false information about statements made by Republican Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance. Following the incident, Vance called for more school security which would prevent more of these incidents while lamenting that school shootings were becoming a “fact of life.”

The Associated Press initially ran with an inaccurate headline that stated “JD Vance says school shootings are a ‘fact of life,’ calls for better security.” However, the AP was forced to retract that headline and delete a post to X for being inaccurate. The AP later changed its headline to state “JD Vance says he laments that school shootings are a ‘fact of life’ and calls for better security.”

Despite even the Associated Press retracting their story about the statements, Straight continued to push the narrative and then make subsequent videos openly attacking citizens of Elkhart who called out her dishonesty.

In one instance, Straight calls an apparent constituent a “bitch” for stating she took Vance’s comments out of context.

In another video, Straight laments that Indiana’s abortion law has saved thousands of babies.

“Given the nightmare that is ‘reproductive healthcare’ in the State of Indiana, I really thought nothing could shock me more.” Straight said. “But I came across a number this week that did just that. Looking through the data… of terminated pregnancies in the second quarter of 2024, I found this number: 27. 27 abortions were performed in the State of Indiana in the second quarter of 2024. That 27 represents a decrease of 1,911 abortions (from the same time last year)… I looked at them and was nauseated… that’s a decrease of over 23,000 abortion procedures (extrapolated over a year). And I wish that all of those 23,000 (women) were able to (get abortions) in another state, but I know that’s not true.”

Prior to becoming the Communications Director for the City of Elkhart, Straight had very little media experience. According to her Linkedin account, she was a Producer for local NPR station WNIT for approximately four years. After that she was a paralegal for one year. She also worked as a substitute teacher from 2013-1015.

Below are several more videos from Straight’s TikTok channel, showing unhinged, partisan attacks against citizens.

  1. Sounds like a Democrat Mayor hired a leftist comms director and didn’t really know what he was signing up for.

Guess what, Mr Mayor: she is your party now!
