SOUTH BEND, Ind. — REAL News Michiana partnered with HBO Max and Investigation Discovery for a new true-crime docuseries that debuted on both platforms earlier this month. The documentary series titled “The Real Murders on Elm Street” featured RNM’s founder, award-winning journalist Clifton French, in its sixth episode which aired on October 15th.
“HBO Max and ID put together an amazing production,” French said. “The episode in which I participated involved the true story of a suspected serial killer by the name of Terry Durbin. I have covered Durbin’s violent past for several years. In 2018, I published an investigative series and podcast about him and his alleged victims. While Durbin is in prison for a murder he committed in 2009, I have discovered he is also the main suspect in at least two other murders in northern Indiana. I hope this national attention can help bring awareness and closure to the families of his other suspected victims.”
RNM participated in the filming of the episode in April of this year, providing the Hollywood production company in charge of the series with an in-depth profile of Durbin, his victims and his crimes. We were not allowed to promote the production or our involvement until the show premiered.
“Durbin is a monster,” French said. “We know he took the life of a loving father in 2009. It is strongly believed he killed another loving mother and father several years before that. The two crimes have too many similarities.”
This is just the latest national recognition for RNM and its founder.
