WATCH: Judge candidate refuses to answer questions about multiple alleged crimes

Republican Candidate for St. Joseph County Probate Judge refused to answer questions about multiple alleged crimes while standing outside of Juday Creek Golf Course prior to a campaign fundraising event on Tuesday, August 20th.

GRANGER, Ind. — The Republican candidate for St. Joseph County Probate Judge, Loris Zappia, continues to dodge questions surrounding multiple alleged crimes he has been accused of. On Tuesday, REAL News Michiana caught up with Zappia outside of a scheduled fundraising event at Juday Creek Golf Course, where he once again refused to answer a single question.

“I released a statement and my statement is I have no statement.” Zappia said.

Loris Zappia violently attacked his brother Len Zappia, a sitting Magistrate Judge, outside of his Granger home two weeks ago. One witness tells REAL News Michiana he saw Loris Zappia take off his shirt then slap his brother across the face. RNM asked Loris Zappia if he has the temperament to be a judge considering the alleged battery he just committed, he immediately began accusing RNM of harassment.

This comes just weeks after RNM published an investigative story detailing an incident in which Loris Zappia hit and killed a man with his car in 1983. Loris Zappia has claimed he was a minor and in high school at the time of the incident. RNM discovered he was actually 18-years-old. A grand jury was also convened to discuss potential criminal charges, however, Loris Zappia has declined to describe what criminal charges were being considered. Once again, on Monday he refused to answer any questions.

Loris Zappia is currently a deputy prosecuting attorney with the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office in the problem-solving courts, which include the Drug Treatment Court and Veterans’ Court.

Loris Zappia was recruited and is supported by St. Joseph County Councilwoman Amy Drake and activist Ashley leader, who both helped start and run Indiana Call to Action, an illegal unregistered PAC that was featured in an RNM investigation earlier this week.

Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly reported Loris Zappia had already graduated from high school at the time of a crash that killed a man in June of 1983. While he was in fact 18-years-old at the time, despite his claims that he was a minor, he was going into his senior year of high school. He graduated in 1984.

  1. Thank you for your indepth reporting. That is exactly why I support you with my subscription. I am praying for you and your family for your safety. Sooooo dissappointed in Casey Hendrickson. The truth always comes out.

  2. This man is a disgrace. We deserve honesty and integrity in our judges and we won’t get that with this weak, pathetic, lying weasel. Man up and honest a fair question. Why lie about this “accident” when it’s a matter of public record?? Oh, because he hoped if he lied and told us it happened as a juvenile, we wouldn’t look since those records are sealed.
