SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Sources have confirmed with REAL News Michiana several Republican members of the St. Joseph County Council, including Amy Drake, have no plans to address recent comments by a council staffer wishing for the death of former President Donald Trump.
Following the assassination attempt against Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania, in which one rally attendee was killed and several others were wounded, Council Secretary Jennifer Prawat made a post on Facebook wishing the president had been killed.
According to sources, after a four hour long budget meeting held on Tuesday, only Democrats condemned the comments along with just ONE Republican, Dan Schaetzle.
“The plan is to just kind of let this go away.” One source who wished not to be named out of fear of retaliation said. “To be honest, they can’t fire her because the lawyers say it would lead to a lawsuit.”
It turns out, Prawat, a radical Democrat, is close friends with many Republican members of the County Council, none more than Amy Drake. They are so close in fact, that Prawat babysits Drake’s own children, according to multiple sources.
“This woman is radically insane.” One source who is familiar with the relationship between Prawat and Drake told REAL News Michiana. “How Amy can trust someone like that to care for her own children shows extremely poor judgement.”
Prawat also endorsed Republican Randy Figg during the Republican primary this past May.
REAL News Michiana reached out to all of the Republican Councilmembers and the Council Attorney to get a statement regarding the disturbing posts made by Prawat. Amy Drake, Mark Root, Joe Thomas, Randy Figg and attorney Jamie O’Brien all did not respond. As of Wednesday morning, none of them have even posted a statement to their social media accounts. However, Amy Drake took time to make a post about a baby flamingo being born at Potawatomi Zoo.
Councilmember Dan Schaetzle was the lone Republican councilmember to make a statement condemning Prawat’s comments.
“This post from Jenn is very disappointing.” Schaetzle wrote in a statement. “All Americans need to tone down this type of rhetoric.”
RNM also reached out to the new St. Joseph County GOP Chair and Vice Chair, Jackie Horvath and Joe Layne. Neither of them responded. This comes on the heels of the GOP’s efforts to reduce party transparency as Layne and Horvath have been pushing for people within the party to sign non-disclosure agreements.
RNM reached out to Prawat for comment. She responded in email by claiming she was not able to see the posts that were sent to her.
There are no county policies against the type of post made by Prawat. Currently it is only against employee policy if a comment were made on a county page or if Prawat was overtly representing herself as a county employee when making the statements.

They moved that meeting up by 1 week? It’s supposed to be held on the FOURTH TUESDAY OF EVERY MONTH! I am NOT going to let this drop, I am INCENSED! A person with such poor judgement and such a vile outlook cannot be allowed to collect TAXPAYER DOLLARS as her wages! Let alone the total lack of public trust in a local government that also allowed a County Clerk to destroy Republican mail-in ballots. Amy Drake is a RINO and no longer welcome in my neighborhood – I forwarded all of this to my HOA’s FB page – everyone agreed not to put her signs up nor vote for her, ever again unless Jennifer Prawat is removed from the County’s employ IMMEDIATELY. This is INEXCUSABLE behavior by anyone, let alone a government employee. To hell with the lawyers, Jennifer is walking on the edge of a Federal Felony of threatening a President or former President ( 18 U.S. Code § 879 ). People in private employ get dismissed all the time for far less than advocating for the assassination of a President. I know Jennifer has been reported to the Secret Service by someone else.
