MISHAWAKA, Ind. — A retired Army veteran and parent of four has discovered a creative way to get around Indiana’s “non-partisan” school board election rules by using a nickname. Ben Dallas has been frustrated with Indiana’s law that prohibits party labels for school board candidates. After some research, he discovered candidates can include a nickname on the ballot. His solution was simple; his nickname will identify his political leanings — “MAGA”.

At first Dallas planned to use the nickname of “Republican”. However, after some discussions with friends, he decided to go with the “MAGA” nickname. The ballot will now show his name in the following format: Ben Dallas “MAGA”. In a crowded four person race for the seat, Dallas hopes the nickname is a dark horse strategy that will propel him past his competitors.

REAL News sat down with Dallas for a 30 minute interview this week where we discussed his credentials, frustrations, opponents and the infamous meme that he created depicting the current school board president as Neo from The Matrix, leading to a ridiculous and illegal no-trespass order being issued against him.
