NILES, Mich. — REAL News Michiana has learned Brandywine Schools are investigating an incident in which a Middle School English teacher drew a large hairy penis on a dry erase board in front of 8th grade students.
According to sources, the incident happened sometime in the last few weeks and involved English Teacher, David Staggs. A student in the class took a picture of Mr. Staggs as he finished the drawing. That picture was shared with other students and parents and was eventually shared with RNM. The staff directory for Brandywine schools lists Staggs as an English Language Arts and Yearbook teacher at Brandywine Middle/High School.

RNM has obtained a voicemail from Superintendent Travis Walker to a parent confirming the district is investigating the incident. However, Walker also claims the drawing was done during a health class. Once again, Staggs is an English Teacher in the district.
“This is Mr. Walker calling from Brandywine. Uh, heard about your concern this morning. Um, just wanted to let you know to clarify, that, um, we are looking into the matter further.” Superintendent Walker says in the voicemail. “We do have more information. We do know that what was shown in the picture was being taught in health class as part of the sex education and reproduction unit, um, but we are still looking into this matter. We do appreciate you making us aware of this.”
The parent who received the voicemail is a practicing nurse with 10-years of medical experience.
“I have been a nurse for 10 years. I have been through many anatomy classes. Never in the history of EVER has an instructor drawn a veiny, hairy penis on the whiteboard.” The parent, who wished not to be named, told RNM.
RNM has reached out to Superintendent Walker for comment. As of publication we have not received a response.
