Grissom Middle School promotes racist event where only white students have to pay

Jenn Sinclair – Principal of Grissom Middle School

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — Grissom Middle School is following the lead of another school in the Penn Harris Madison School Corporation by promoting an off campus event that is overtly racist. While the event claims to be for all middle school girls, the registration page for the day-long event appears to show that only white children are going to be forced to pay to attend. However, girls of color and boys who identify as girls will be offered “scholarships” to pay for the registration fee for what’s being called the “Expand Your Horizons at Notre Dame” event.

Last week, RNM published a story regarding Discovery Middle School promoting the STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) event. The event is being promoted in Discovery Middle School's electronic newsletter, Archer update, and contains a flyer for what Discovery was calling the One-Day STEM Conference for Girls at Notre Dame. The not-so-fine-print of the flyer makes it clear that while the program is open to white girls, they will be discriminated against.

"Partnering with Techbridge Girls, we seek to serve Black, Indigenous, and all girls of color, which includes cis girls, trans youth, gender nonconforming, and/or nonbinary youth who experience(d) girlhood and economic insecurity as part of their journey." The flyer for the April 22nd event reads in part.

Grissom Middle School is also promoting the event in their electronic newsletter. However, the school scrubbed the racist flyer and exchanged it with an arbitrary picture of children. The newsletter also tells parents that "scholarships" are available but it fails to mention scholarships are only for girls of color and boys who think they're girls.

The registration section for the event, found through the link in the middle school newsletter, makes it clear that white children will not be given scholarships to attend.

"Scholarship priority will be given to Black, Indigenous, and all girls of color, including cis girls, trans youth, gender-nonconforming, and/or nonbinary youth who experience(d) girlhood and economic insecurity as part of their journey." The registration form explains.

Notre Dame has partnered with a group called Techbridge Girls, that appears to be working with schools across the country to incorporate Critical Race Theory into the teaching of STEM programs.

"Techbridge Girls has developed gender responsive and culturally-relevant STEM curricula that allows girls* to see their unique STEM lineage, culture, community and interests." The organization's website states. "With a focus on dismantling systemic and structural barriers, Techbridge Girls’ advocacy efforts center BIPOC girls*’ experiences in making broad-based systems change."

This kind of discrimination against white children is becoming more and more common at PHM Schools. RNM recently discovered the Superintendent of the PHM School Corporation is offering a scholarship for a graduating Penn High School senior that excludes only one race of people. The “Student Educator Scholarship” is for a graduating senior who plans to seek a degree in teacher education. The only other criteria for applying is that the student cannot be white.

  1. How many liberal buzzwords (aka nonsensical gibberish) do you find in the “Techbridge Girls” mission statement: “…gender responsive …culturally-relevant…unique STEM lineage, culture, and community interests… dismantling systemic and cultural barriers…broadbased systems change…” ….A perfect nonsensical word salad. Only in a modern academic cesspool could such misguided foolishness be hatched.
