INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — REAL News Michiana has discovered an Indiana abortion doctor who is listed as a Plaintiff in a lawsuit against the state’s abortion ban is connected to two maternal deaths and a botched abortion that led to a child being born alive, before perishing hours later. Amy Caldwell, an abortion doctor out of Indianapolis, has also performed numerous illegal medication abortions in the past year.

According to Terminated Pregnancy Reports (TPRs) filed with the Indiana Department of Health, Caldwell performed an abortion on a 31-year-old woman in June of 2022, resulting in the woman’s death. That abortion was also performed illegally, using the abortion pill method despite the mother being 19 weeks pregnant. The abortion pill can only be used up to 10 weeks into the pregnancy, according to Indiana law.

Caldwell also performed an abortion on a 29-year-old woman only a couple of months earlier in April of 2022. According to the TPR, that abortion resulted in the death of the mother again.

In July of 2022, Caldwell performed yet another illegal abortion in which the baby was born alive. According to the TPR in that case, the abortion was performed on a 27-year-old married woman who was expecting a baby boy. The woman was also 20-weeks pregnant and the same abortion pill method was used illegally again. According to the TPR, the baby boy was born alive and survived for 2-hours before he died. It does not appear any lifesaving medical treatment was provided to the baby boy as he laid there and died.  In Indiana, life saving measures only need to be performed on babies born alive if they are 20-weeks in post fertilization age or older.

Another TPR shows Caldwell performed yet another illegal pill abortion on a 22-year-old woman who was 19-weeks pregnant in April of 2022.

“As a prolific Indiana abortionist, Dr. Amy Caldwell has a vested financial interest in keeping abortion legal so she can continue profiting off women in crisis at the expense of their own safety.” Melanie Lyon, Executive Director of Hoosier Voices for Life, said. “Voices for Life is currently working to Health Department and Attorney General’s office to investigate both of these disturbing incidents and hold Dr. Caldwell accountable”

THE LAWSUIT AGAINST INDIANA’S ABORTION BAN

The lawsuit against Indiana’s abortion ban lists Caldwell as a plaintiff and describes her professional profile.

“Dr. Amy Caldwell is an OB/GYN physician licensed to practice medicine in the State of Indiana.” The lawsuit states. “Dr. Caldwell is employed by IU Health and by Indiana University Medical School. She provides abortion care at IU Health and the Georgetown Road Health Center operated by PPGNHAIK.”

The lawsuit also claims abortions save the lives of mothers, without giving evidence to the fact and leaving out the multiple reported maternal deaths at the hands of Caldwell herself.

The lawsuit claims there were 60 maternal deaths in Indiana in 2020, as an argument for the need to keep abortion legal. However, maternal deaths would include those who died in the abortion process and the numbers are not broken down.

AMY CALDWELL

According to the IU School of Medicine website, Caldwell is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology. She performs abortions across Indianapolis, including Riley Hospital for Children. According to her LinkedIn profile, she was also a physician at the University of Chicago.

Caldwell has only held her medical license in Indiana since July of 2021.

  1. A lot of blood on her hands for someone who has been a practicing physician for such a short period of time in Indiana. Someday she’ll have to answer for her deeds and Karma is a bitch.
