SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Now that the 50 years of wrongheaded abortion jurisprudence has been overturned by the U.S.Supreme Court in the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, the fight for protection of the unborn has moved to the state level. On July 6th, the Indiana General Assembly will convene a special session during which legislators will almost certainly enact pro-life legislation.
We know the pro-abortion crowd will be out in full force during the special session to intimidate and silence pro-life supporters. But it’s incumbent on conservatives to also turn out in support of the General Assembly enacting strong legislation in a post-Roe landscape.
Voices For Life is coordinating a statewide effort to turn out busses of pro-life supporters from each Congressional district across Indiana to protest at the State Capitol each day during the special session.
“We’ve been waiting nearly 50 years for this moment,” Voices for Life spokeswoman Melanie Lyon says. “This ruling is the result of thousands of hours of prayer and work from so many faithful people and we are so grateful for the lives that will be saved as a result. We are ready to build a world where women are supported in their motherhood.”
Although initially tepid in his endorsement of pro-life legislation, Governor Holcomb approved of the Supreme Court’s decision and signaled a commitment to signing into law bills to protect the unborn.
